hmm okay .. it's been few days since i updated this blog.. and the new entry this time is about movie, again .. hehe.. hope you won't get bored with my entries ..
tuesday night ago, i watched
White Noise with my usual classmates .. hehe, although we have a pretty difficult assignment that's due this friday, we'd like to go anyway, since the tickets' on tuesday are always cheaper, only $6 .. okay so anyway,
The film is based on "
EVP", something that will have you thinking (or send a chill down your spine) the next time the cable or dish goes out and your TV is full of snow. Haha.. what's it ?
Electronic Voice Phenomenon, a device (well actually it has a lot of things connected, like monitor, TVs, speakers, computer, recorders, etc.) that can
catch glimpses and voices of the death.. hiiiiii.. well that's why i want to watch this movie, ever since i watched the trailer first.. hmm, what else can i say about it ?
The storyline is about an architect
Jonathan Rivers (
Michael Keaton) who is living a happy suburban life with his wife
Anna (
Chandra West) and son
Mike (
Nicholas Elia).. His world is turned upside down when Anna dies under somewhat odd circumstances.. While attempting to get his life back on track, Jonathan is contacted by
Raymond Price (
Ian McNeice), an expert on the phenomenon.. Raymond claims that Anna is trying to contact Jonathan through a series of messages which can only be detected through Raymond’s EVP equipment.. Jonathan is skeptical at first but he quickly begins to see the truth and realizes that Anna’s messages may be important not just to him, but to all of those around him.. Since the EVP he's got is showing some glimpse about someone that has been lost for couple days, and also about someone who's near death in accident , so that he can save her baby .. So he thinks by this device, he can save many people ... But well, it's dangerous you know, to intervere another world .. His wife's been trying to tell him to stop, but well he doesn't really get it anyway ..
The film has a handful of hair raising scenes and Keaton is solid in his role as the grief-stricken lead.. The real problems with this film are two-fold.. First, the film starts painfully slow, absolutely nothing interesting happens for the first 40 minutes of the film. The second problem is a much bigger one though.. Due to time constraints or just poor scripting, the actual phenomenon of EVP is never really explained.. It is simply flashed in front of the viewer and we are supposed to understand it with virtually no explanation.. That kinda makes me confused in understanding what's the movie really about.. Until now, I don't get it perfectly.. Well kinda confused, cause it shows that EVP can be manipulated by some bad spirits to show some future killings..
well, so it's your choice then .. not as good as i was expected before, but it can make me scared, or maybe it was just me being chicken, i closed my ears for most of the time 'cause i'm afraid of the sound effect hehehe..
